Dry mouth is an issue many people suffer from. This is a true medical condition and requires treatment. Unfortunately, dry mouth also causes chronic bad breath. Dry mouth is a lack of the normal amounts of saliva in the mouth. Saliva is a natural moistening substance that is used to remove bacteria from the mouth. When the mouth is dry for a long period of time, the mouth suffers a lack of oxygen and adds to the problem. In addition to medical contributions, dry mouth can also be caused by medications you take, alcohol use, and smoking.
Bad breath can also accompany those who suffer from respiratory infections. The infection stems from a mucus buildup in the throat. This situation can provide the perfect environment for bacteria growth. Bacteria growth will always equal bad breath. To get rid of chronic bad breath with a respiratory infection, be sure to gargle a mouthwash that includes an antiseptic. This will help rid the mouth of the bacteria, but it also helps the bad breath problem. Gargling in this manner could also help heal your infection more quickly since you are ridding the source of the infection.
